Promethazine Hydrochloride Oral Solution (Plain) manufactured by PAI Holdings, LLC dba PAI Pharma. It is a generic antihistamine syrup, typically containing 6.25 mg of promethazine hydrochloride per 5 mL (one teaspoonful). It is a clear oral solution, often supplied in pint bottles (473 mL).
Promethazine is a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine. It blocks histamine H1 receptors to reduce allergic responses and also exerts anticholinergic, sedative, and antiemetic (anti-nausea) effects. The “Plain” version from PAI Pharma contains only promethazine (no added codeine or dextromethorphan, unlike some combination products like Promethazine DM).
It is prescription-only and used for short-term symptom relief.
